If so, the idea of a hemispherical combustion chamber can date back to the early 1900's, shits hella old.

Dart wasn't really offered with a Hemi engine. They did make around 70 pieces of racing homologation models (and similar batch of Barracudas) but they weren't even delivered fully painted. Glass fiber front fenders and hood were flat black and the rest of the body was in grey primer. It was probably missing a lot of things that regular models had.

I have remember they they weren't sold as non street legal cars but I can't provide source for this (it was in a magazine that I don't have in my hand)

I have no idea if they had trouble selling these but now they are pretty valuable. But restored to their original primered form they do look a bit silly.

That's another difference between those Hemi cars and today's: putting that much power through the ground through two of these (never mind whatever launch control algorithms your brain could pass to your right foot despite the effect exerted on your spinal column by your puckering spinchter). Nowadays that's the width of a steering wheel, not a tire!

That was a mighty handsome car attached to it, though — powerful American cars of that area look downright sleek and rakish compared to the cetaceans in the same role today.

Gotta dig up that Mechanix Illustrated with the Tom McCahill road test of a hemi-powered '66, which feat he performed at Daytona if memory serves. One of the classics of a writing style that looks a lot easier to imitate than it really is (despite the generations of automotive journalists who have tried). As I recall, he found the handling and suspension qualities to be first rate (in contrast to that of lower models), but critiqued the stock 120 mph speedometer ("like trying to pass off a portrait of Castro as "Whistler's Mother"... even having a smoke with the top down during a warmup lap, we quickly buried the needle" and was frustrated in his attempt to reach 150 mph by the added drag of the convertible top's being sucked up as the air rushed by.

Well, I'm 19. Never lived through the era. I do like Fords, not a Chevy fan unless it's a C2 or early C3. I like Mopar because they seemed like the batshit crazy car maker. They had the best engineering, the intimidating, aggressive looking cars, and the craziest color palette. They seemed to be the underdog/muscle car bastard child. They never really had the sales of FoMoCo or GM, yet they are so sought after. You could say that's because there are less of them, but AMC. Mopar seemed to always push the envelope (winged cars). Most of their stuff was bulletproof. My dad tried the rumor of the 727 TF trans and nothing broke. You could literally plant your foot down on the go pedal and keep shifting between drive and reverse.

The argument of better looking is subjective and I can't say that Mopar was lacking in the motor division. The 340, 383, 440 were great motors. The 426, or really the 392, is still the basis for most drag racing motors today.

I always loved the models with the "Air Grabber" hood scoop. A friend of mine had one back in the day and it was pretty intimidating to see the scoop open at a set of lights, wow this guy is serious....LOL....I still had him in the first 60 feet with my 69 Swinger 340!
